DESCRIPTION -- Napkin Ring from the Nelson Line vessel the SS Highland Glen which is in a very good condition and shows on the front the company emblem.  The vessel tragically sank in 1917 making this item a very old and rare piece.

HISTORY -- The SS Highland Glen was a Passenger/Cargo Refrigerated Steamship built by Russel & Company, Port Glasgow in 1910 for the Nelson Steam Navigation Company, London.  She was badly damaged by fire in 1933 and made one further passage.

DESCRIPTION -- Very scarce find of an as used on board ship ashtray from the Elders and Fyffes Line shipping company.  It is from the vessel the SS Cavina and stands 4" (10cm) high and shows on it the company emblem.  Very rare find (click on the picture to see a close up of the company emblem).

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- On June 1st, 1917, the British steamer SS Cavina, on a voyage from Port Limon to Avonmouth with a cargo of bananas & logwood, was sunk by the German submarine U-88 (Walther Schwieger), 45 miles WxS of Fastnet. There were no casualties.  Established in 1901 with a nominal capital of 150,000 pounds, Elders & Fyffes was a subsidiary of Elder Dempster of Liverpool but working capital was at first in short supply. Alfred Jones of Elder Dempster had supplied some, as had the London fruit distributors Fyffe, Hudson & Co. (hence the company title) and even the small Bristol stevedoring company C.J. King and Sons contributed, receiving in return the contracts to handle the discharge of fruit and the supply of tugs.

HISTORY -- Anchor Line was founded in 1856 as Handysides & Henderson although Handysides & Co. had owned ships prior to this date. In 1872 the Barrow Steamship Co. was formed in partnership with the Duke of Devonshire and ships were later transferred between Anchor Line and Barrow SS Co., but the two companies have been treated as one for the purposes of this list.

DESCRIPTION -- Very rare to find butter knife from the old turn of the 20^th century vessel the SS (RMS) Themistocles, which is in a good condition and an item which you would not normally find available to purchase.

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- TSS Themistocles was an 11,200-ton ocean liner of the Aberdeen Line launched in 1910, and later sold to the Shaw, Savill & Albion Line, working on routes to Australia for both companies.  Themistocles was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland and launched on 22 September 1910. A sister ship, Demosthenes, was launched on 28 February 1911.  She served as a British troopship during World War I and survived a number of convoy duties during World War II, remaining on the Australian route throughout and also after the war, until scrapped at Dalmuir on 24 August 1947.

DESCRIPTION -- Dating from 1977 and connected with the Royal Fleet Review on June 20th 1977, this is a round dish souvenir showing in the centre a colour picture of the Royal Yacht Britannia. The dish is 4" (11cm) wide and is in a fantastic as new condition.

HISTORY -- Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia is the former royal yacht of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, in service from 1954 to 1997. She was the 83rd such vessel since King Charles II acceded to the throne in 1660, and is the second royal yacht to bear the name, the first being the racing cutter built for the Prince of Wales in 1893. During her 43-year career, the yacht travelled more than a million nautical miles around the globe. Today, she is a museum ship and events venue permanently berthed at Ocean Terminal, Leith, in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is visited by around 300,000 tourists each year.

HISTORY -- The SS Shalom was a combined ocean liner/cruise ship built in 1964 by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, St Nazaire, France, for ZIM Lines, Israel, for transatlantic service from Haifa to New York. In 1967, she was sold to the German Atlantic Line, becoming their second SS Hanseatic. Subsequently she served as SS Doric for Home Lines, SS Royal Odyssey for Royal Cruise Line and SS Regent Sun for Regency Cruises. She was laid up in 1995 following the bankruptcy of Regency Cruises.
