Fantastic oil painting from a very popular and very collectable maritime artist Colin Moore. It is of the pleasure steamer Royal Sovereign and in original frame and dating from 1995 and signed by the artist.
Since his death in January 2019 his paintings have become very collectable and are to be found in auctions all over the country. This painting has come into our possession and will be offered on the website for a period of time before going to auction.
A rare find and in an excellent condition. The information on the back of the painting is as follows:

Colin Moore - Maritime Artist
Colin Moore was born on the Clyde Coast of Scotland in 1949. He studied architecture in Glasgow, and following an international career in architecture and design, worked mainly as a painter and printmaker from 2004. He lived in Spain, Venezuela and London and spent a great deal of time in Dorset, England. His book, Propaganda Prints, art in the service of social and political change, was published by Bloomsbury in August of 2010. His paintings and prints can be obtained from a number of galleries around the UK.

DESCRIPTION -- Hand painted picture of the liner Canberra leaving Sydney, Australia. The size is 20" x 10" (51cm x 25cm) and it is in a very good condition and the age of this painting is not known.

CONDITION -- Very Good
HISTORY -- The SS Canberra was an ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland at a cost of 17,000,000. The ship was named on 17 March 1958, after the federal capital of Australia, Canberra. She was launched on 16 March 1960, sponsored by Dame Pattie Menzies, GBE, wife of the then Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies. She entered service in May 1961, and took her maiden voyage starting in June. During the 1982 Falklands War, she served as a troop ship.

DESCRIPTION -- Superb early collectors print of the Royal Marine Society's training ship HMS Warspite, which was based at Greenwich, England. It is nicely hand coloured and is dated 10th June 1877 and is in a holding frame and can be kept in this or reset as required and the item is approx. 13" x 12" (35cm x 31cm).

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- HMS Warspite was a Queen Elizabeth-class battleship built for the Royal Navy during the early 1910's. Her thirty-year career covered both world wars and took her across the Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Pacific Oceans.
She participated in the Battle of Jutland during the First World War as part of the Grand Fleet. Other than that battle, and the inconclusive Action of 19 August, her service during the war generally consisted of routine patrols and training in the North Sea.
