DESCRIPTION -- From the British India Steam Navigation Company this is an early framed picture of the famous vessel the SS Uganda which is 12" x 9" (30cm 25cm) in size and is in a very good condition.

HISTORY -- The SS Uganda was a British steamship that had a varied and notable career. She was built in 1952 as a passenger liner, and successively served as a cruise ship, hospital ship, troop ship and stores ship. She was laid up in 1985 and scrapped in 1992.

DESCRIPTION -- From the British India Steam Navigation Company vessel the SS Nevasa this is a souvenir map dish showing a ship's ports of call and it is in an excellent condition with the size being 4½" (12cm) and dates from the 1960's.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- The SS Nevasa was owned by the British India Steam Navigation Company and was 20,527 tons. New features of the ship included stabilisers to reduce rolling in rough seas. The Nevasa had the capacity to accommodate 500 officers and their families and 1,000 NCOs and men on the troop deck. The ship was used to transport troops during the Suez Crisis in 1956.

The company had been formed out of Mackinnon, Mackenzie & Co, a trading partnership of the Scots William Mackinnon and Robert Mackenzie, to carry mail between Calcutta and Rangoon. It became British India SN Co in 1862. Under the hand of Lord Inchcape, who had become chairman in 1913, the company became part of the P&O group of companies in 1914 through a complex amalgamation, but continued with its own identity and organisation for another nearly 60 years until 1972, when it was entirely absorbed into P&O.

DESCRIPTION -- From the British India Steam Navigation Company Ltd this is a souvenir picture dish from the vessel the MS Devonia which is dated 1950's and is 4" (11.5cm) wide and a rare find.

HISTORY -- The MS Devonia was originally called MS Devonshire and was built in 1939 as a troop ship. The vessel was refitted in 1962 and called MS Devonia. She was sold for scrapping in 1967 and scrapped in 1968.

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir chrome ashtray from the 1950's and from the British India Steam Navigation Company vessel the SS Nevasa which shows in the centre the company emblem and is in a great condition.

CONDITION -- Very Good
HISTORY -- The third Nevasa was built for BI in 1956 as a troopship under government specifications. She was followed by her near sister, the Oxfordshire, built for the Bibby Line in 1957. Unfortunately both ships' careers as troopships were cut short as the result of the government's termination of national service and the increasing transfer of troops by air. Eventually BI took the decision to convert Nevasa for a new role as an educational cruise ship
