DESCRIPTION -- From the Donaldson Line this is an as used in service dining side plate produced in the original design and is in an excellent condition. It is bottom marked with flag and is 6" (15cm) wide and dates from the 1950's.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- The Donaldson Line began running services from Glasgow to South America with sailing ships in 1858, and steamships entered the fleet in 1870. In 1874, regular services to Canada started. True passenger services began in 1905, with the conversion of Athenia to carry 130 First Class and 400 Third-Class. She was joined by Cassandra in 1906, the first purpose-built liner, and similar sisters Saturnia and Letitia in 1910/12. These four ships allowed a weekly passenger service to be operated from the Clyde to Canada.

DESCRIPTION -- From the Clan Line shipping company this is a rare find and is an as used in service plate which is in an excellent condition and the size is 7½" (19cm) wide. It shows on it the company crest/houseflag and dates from the 1940's (click on the picture to see a close up of the crest/houseflag).

HISTORY -- The Clan Line was a passenger and cargo shipping company that operated in one incarnation or another from the late nineteenth century and into the twentieth century. The company that would become the Clan Line was first founded as C. W. Cayzer & Company in Liverpool in 1877 by Charles Cayzer. It was set up to operate passenger routes between Britain and Bombay, India via the Suez Canal. The next year, Captain William Irvine joined the company and it was renamed Cayzer, Irvine & Company.

DESCRIPTION -- Dining side plate as originally used on board vessel for the Currie Line shipping company and the size is 7" (18cm) wide and it dates from the 1960's.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- The Currie Line was Founded 1913 by the merger of three Liverpool companies and there is little information available about this company on the Internet. It was a subsidiary of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Group from 1917 to 1930 but became independent again in 1930 when the Royal Mail group broke up. It purchased stock in Belfast Steamship Co. Ltd., Burns & Laird, British & Irish before going into a decline. British & Irish was purchased by the Irish Government in 1965 and the remainder by P&O. The main part of Currie Line was purchased by the Anchor Line in 1969.

DESCRIPTION -- From the British tanker vessel Thamesfield built in 1959 is an as used in service china ship's dining plate. The ship hails from the British tanker company Hunting and Son and is 9" (23cm) wide and the plate shows on it the company houseflag and is in an excellent condition appearing to have little used.

HISTORY -- Hunting PLC is a British-based supplier to the oil and gas industry. Some 27% of the business is owned by the Hunting family. It is headquartered in London and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. The business was founded by Charles Hunting, a veterinary surgeon, in 1874 as a shipping business. The business, originally known as Hunting & Pattison, was managed by the founder's son, Charles Samuel Hunting, and comprised two sailing ships, the Genii and the Sylvia. In the 1890's the company invested in oil tankers and became a tanker broker.

HISTORY -- The United Baltic Corporation was formed as a partnership with Andrew Weir & Co. in 1919. The early 1920's saw services extend from Copenhagen to South Africa, Cuba, Australia, Mexico and North Pacific ports. New York and, later, Philadelphia, Baltimore or Norfolk, Virginia were among the ports of call added for ships on the north Pacific route in 1940. Connections between Vancouver and the far east were handled by Johnson Walton Steamships Ltd of Vancouver, when they were acquired in 1949. Most recently, cargo was the mainstay of the business.

HISTORY -- Ethiopian Shipping Lines is the only company involved in sea freight activity in the country. The company, in its long sea transportation service manage to build a reputation of reliability, efficiency and good service. It gives a liner service in North Continent and Mediterranean route, Far East route, Arabian Gulf route and Indian Sub Continent route. It also gives a Cross Trade service mostly from Europe to Red sea and Gulf ports.
