DESCRIPTION -- Early example glass cabin ashtray from the United States Line which shows a superb eagle company logo and company name etched on the glass. It is in a mint condition, quite heavy and is 4" (11.5cm) wide and the type of item used onboard or available to buy as a souvenir.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- The United States Lines was a transatlantic shipping company that operated cargo services from 1921 to 1989, and ocean liners until 1969 most famously the SS United States. The company was formed with three ships from the tonnage of the failed United States Mail Steamship Company. Two of the ships, America and George Washington, were originally German vessels that had been seized during World War I and kept as reparations.

HISTORY -- Norddeutsche Lloyd (NDL) (North German Lloyd) was a German shipping company. It was founded by Hermann Henrich Meier and Eduard Cresemann in Bremen on February 20, 1857. It developed into one of the most important German shipping companies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was instrumental in the economic development of Bremen and Bremerhaven. On September 1, 1970, the company merged with Hamburg America Line (HAPAG) to form Hapag-Lloyd AG.
