SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE VESSEL THE SS DUKE OF YORK

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir item from the old steam vessel the SS Duke of York from the British Rail Ferries which is a souvenir spoon.  It shows on it the company Houseflag and the name of the vessel and is in a very good condition and dated from the 1960's (click on the picture for a close up of one of the top of the item).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Duke of York was a steamer passenger ship initially operated by the London Midland and Scottish Railway which saw service from 1935 to 1964.  She was renamed HMS Duke of Wellington for the duration of World War II.

SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE VESSEL RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH [P]

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon from the famous old lady of the sea the RMS Queen Elizabeth which is in a very good condition and dates from the 1940’s/1950’s.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The RMS Queen Elizabeth was an ocean liner operated by Cunard Line. With Queen Mary she provided weekly luxury liner service between Southampton in the United Kingdom and New York City in the United States, via Cherbourg in France.

EARLY SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE SEALINK FERRY CROSSING SERVICE

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon which is an early item from the Sealink British Rail Coastal Ferry Crossing Service which is in a very good condition (click on the picture to see a close up of the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- Sealink was the shipping division of then nationalised British Rail. As part of the preparations for privatisation a new livery designed by H&P associates to differentiate the operation from the British Rail corporate image was introduced on the newly acquired (on charter from Stena) ST. NICHOLAS in March 1984.

SOUVENIR TEA CADDY SPOON FROM THE P&O LINE VESSEL THE ORCADES [P]

DESCRIPTION -- From the vessel the SS Orcades this is a souvenir tea caddy spoon showing the name and company houseflag on and dating from the 1950's and is in an excellent condition (click on the picture to see a close up).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The SS Orcades started service as a British Royal Mail Ship (RMS) carrying first and tourist class passengers, and was an ocean liner serving primarily the UK, Australia and New Zealand route. Orcades carried many migrants to Australia and New Zealand and was later used as a cruise ship by the P&O Line. "Orcades" is the Latin name for the Orkney Islands.

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon from the Cunard Line vessel the RMS Franconia which is in an excellent condition dating from the 1930's/40's (click on the picture to see a view of the top of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The RMS Franconia was an ocean liner operated by the Cunard Line from 1922 to 1956. She was second of three liners named Franconia which served the Cunard Line, the others being RMS Franconia built in 1910 and the third Franconiain 1963.

SOUVENIR SUGAR SIFTER SPOON FROM THE OLD VESSEL THE BERENGARIA [P]

DESCRIPTION -- Very early souvenir ornate sugar sifter spoon from the old vessel the RMS Berengaria which is in an excellent condition and dates from the 1920's/30's and is a very are find (click on the picture to see a close up of the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- Built as "Imperator" for the Hamburg-Amerika Line, the Berengaria made her maiden voyage from Cuxhaven to New York on the 20th June 1913. From August 1914, she was in Hamburg harbour for the duration of the war. On the 5th May 1919 she was seized by US navy as a troop transport and in February 1920, she was handed over to the Shipping Controller, London as reparation for the sinking of the "Lusitania" and sold to the Cunard Line, where she became the company's flagship, later renamed "Berengaria".

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The SS Himalaya was a British passenger ship of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, launched in 1948, which operated mainly between Britain and Australia. She was withdrawn from service in 1974 and scrapped the next year.

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon from the P&O Line shipping company which is in a very good condition and shows the company emblem at the end (click on the picture to see a close up of the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- P&O (formerly the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company) was a British shipping and logistics company dating from the early 19th century. Formerly a public company, it was sold to DP World in March 2006 for £3.9 billion. DP World currently operate three P&O branded businesses, P&O Ferries, P&O Maritime and P&O Heritage.

VERY RARE SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE CUNARD LINE VESSEL THE SAMARIA [P]

DESCRIPTION -- Rare to find souvenir spoon from the Cunard Line vessel the RMS Samaria which is in an excellent condition and dates from the 1940's.  Not many items come up for sale from this vessel.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The RMS Samaria was transatlantic ocean liner built for Cunard Line. She served from 1922 until 1955. During the Second World War she was a troopship in the Royal Navy. Samaria was scrapped in 1956.

SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE OLD UNION CASTLE LINE VESSEL THE WALMER CASTLE [P]

DESCRIPTION -- From the Union Castle Line vessel the Walmer Castle this is a very old souvenir spoon which is in a fair condition, and dates from the 1920's/1930's.

CONDITION -- Fair

HISTORY -- The vessel RMS Walmer Castle was built at John Brown, Clydebank and launched on March 9th 1921 by the Prince of Wales. It was converted in 1937 to two funnels and given a reshaped bow and used as a troop ship. The vessel was tragically sunk in May 1943.
