UNUSED COLOUR POSTCARD FROM THE RMS IVERNIA

DESCRIPTION -- Very rare to find and early unused mint condition colour postcard of the very famous Cunard Line vessel The RMS Ivernia which is an early example postcard.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The RMS Ivernia was a British ocean liner owned by the Cunard Line, built by the company Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson of Newcastle upon Tyne, England and launched in 1899. The Ivernia was one of Cunard's intermediate ships, that catered to the vast immigrant trade. Her sistership was SS Saxonia. The Ivernia worked on Cunard's service from Liverpool to Boston and then later on the immigrant run from Trieste to New York City.

DESCRIPTION -- Unused mint condition colour postcard from the great old lady of the sea the RMS Queen Mary which is an excellent example postcard and is just one of our vast stock collection.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- RMS Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (then Cunard White Star when the vessel entered service). Built by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland, she was designed to be the first of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service from Southampton to Cherbourg to New York, in answer to the mainland European superliners of the late 1920's and early 1930's.

IN SERVICE POSTCARD FROM THE CUNARD LINE VESSEL THE QE2

DESCRIPTION -- Unused postcard from the Cunard Line vessel the QE2  which is in full and is in a very good and is as new condition.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The QE2 was designed for the transatlantic service from her home port of Southampton, UK to New York, United States and was named after the earlier Cunard liner RMS Queen Elizabeth. She served as the flagship of the line from 1969 until succeeded by RMS Queen Mary 2 in 2004.

USED POSTCARD FROM THE LINER THE ARCADIA

DESCRIPTION -- This is a postcard from the original old liner the Arcadia. It has been used and posted but is in a good condition.

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- The Arcadia was built by John Brown of Clydebank in 1954 for the P&O Line. Her sister ship was the Belfast-built Iberia of the same year. They were easily distinguishable due to different funnel tops. The Arcadia received full air-conditioning on a refit in Belfast in 1959. The Arcadia operated on the UK-Australia passenger service, with increasing numbers of cruises. In 1970 she became a full time one-class cruise ship. In 1976, The Arcadia was permanently based out of Sydney. She was scrapped in Taiwan in 1979.

POSTCARD OF THE OLD VESSEL THE RMS ROYAL GEORGE

DESCRIPTION -- This is a very early postcard from the  vessel the RMS Royal George and is in a very good condition.

CONDITION -- Very Good
 
HISTORY -- RMS ROYAL GEORGE was built as the 11,146 gross ton SS Heliopolis in 1907 at Fairfield Co. Ltd., Glasgow for the British owned Egyptian Mail Co. Line, and launched 28th May 1907. Her details were - length 525.8ft x beam 60.2ft, two funnels, two masts, triple screw and a service speed of 19 knots. There was passenger accommodation for 344-1st, 210-2nd and 560-3rd class. Heliopolis served the Marseilles - Alexandria route, but after she was found to be unprofitable, was laid up in 1909 at Marseilles and offered for sale. Canadian Northern Steamships of Toronto purchased her in 1910 for their Avonmouth - Quebec - Montreal route. They gave her a refit for North Atlantic service, and renamed her "Royal George". The SS Royal George set out on her maiden voyage for Canadian Northern Steamships on May 26, 1910.

EARLY B/W POSTCARD FROM THE BIBBY LINE VESSEL THE DORSETSHIRE

DESCRIPTION -- Early B/W postcard from the Bibby Line vessel the Dorsetshire which is used and dated as postmark and in a good condition.

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- HM Troopship Dorsetshire was a Bibby Line ship built in 1920 by Harland & Wolff at Belfast with a tonnage of 7450grt, a length of 450ft 4in, a beam of 57ft 4in and a service speed of 12 knots. One of a pair she was designed with higher than normal 'tween deck clearance so that she could be converted into a troopship if required. When launched on 22nd April 1920 she was the largest motorship at the time and was completed as a tin ore carrying cargo ship.

DESCRIPTION -- Original B/W postcard of the Orient Line vessel The Orsova which is in a very good condition.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The SS Orsova, a 1503 passenger ocean liner, was built by Vickers Armstrong Shipbuilders Ltd. of Barrow-in-Furness, England, in 1954 for the Orient Steam Navigation Company for UK to Australia services via the Suez Canal, the voyage taking four weeks. After 1955, the return trip was eastward via Auckland, Suva, Honolulu, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Panama, Trinidad and Cherbourg.

UNUSED B/W POSTCARD OF THE ROYAL INDIAN NAVAL VESSEL HMIS INDUS

DESCRIPTION -- B/W postcard of the Indian Royal Naval vessel the HMIS Indus and it is in a very good condition and is unused.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- HMIS Indus was a Grimsby-class sloop of the Royal Indian Navy launched in 1934 and sunk during the Second World War in 1942. She was a slightly enlarged version of other vessels in the Grimsby class. She was named after the Indus River. Indus served mainly as an escort vessel, and she was therefore lightly armed. Her pennant number was changed to U67 in 1940.
