DESCRIPTION -- This book is from 1979 and now out of print and difficult to trace. It is entitled Merchant Fleets by Duncan Hawes and covers the ships of the Union Castle, Allan and Canadian Pacific Line. Excellent condition and contains over 180 pages and it an ex library book (click on the picture for a view of some open pages).

HISTORY -- The Fastnet Race is a biennial offshore yacht race organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club of the United Kingdom with the assistance of the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes and the Royal Western Yacht Club in Plymouth.

MARITIME BOOK SELECTION

DESCRIPTION -- Dated from the 27th September 1917 this is an original item of use and is a 'Bills of Fare' booklet from the American Line vessel the U.S.M.S. St Paul. It is for the voyage 256 West of the date listed and a rare item such as this does not come along that often. It is in a fairly good condition considering the age and has some fantastic facts in it from the time of its service.

CONDITION -- Fair
HISTORY -- The ST. PAUL and sister ship ST. LOUIS steamed between England and New York for the American Lines. These ships were very successful a liners, in spite of their smaller size and lesser luxury than many contemporary foreign vessels. They could each carry 1340 passengers in civilian service. These ships were provided with seventeen watertight compartments, and additional compartments surrounding the machinery

DESCRIPTION -- This item dates from the early 1900's and is a book by G. Gibbard Jackson entitled 'Steamships: Their History And Their Deeds'. It covers the early days of steamships and the major shipping companies and their liners and there are many fantastic original pictures of vessels from the White Star Line and the 'Olympic', and the book contains nearly 300 pages. A great early book of shipping history at its best and in a good condition.
