DIFFERENT CRUISE LINES AND SHIPPING COMPANIES
DESCRIPTION -- Unused B/W postcard of the Royal Mail Line vessel the Danube which is in an excellent condition and is an early very rare postcard.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- Royal Mail Lines (RML) was created in 1932 and took over the ships of Royal Mail Steam Packet Company and other companies of the former group. The Royal Mail Line was taken over in 1965 by Furness, Withy & Company and ships often interchanged between the Royal Mail Line, Furness and Shaw Savill & Albion Lines fleets. By 1972 Royal Mail had virtually disappeared as a separate shipping line.

DESCRIPTION -- Early colour postcard of the Canadian Pacific Line vessel The Melita and is in an as new condition for such as early postcard.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- When this ship's keel was laid down at Barclay, Curle & Co. of Glasgow in 1913, she was intended for the Hamburg America Line. World War I intervened, however, and while on the stocks she was purchased by Canadian Pacific Line. After being launched as Melita in 1917, she was towed to Harland & Wolff in Belfast for the installation of her engines and fitting out. She entered service with a 25 January 1918 maiden voyage from Liverpool to St. John, New Brunswick. Before being overhauled in Antwerp in 1920, she served on Canadian Pacific's Liverpool-New York route and made a Glasgow-Bombay voyage in 1919 for the British government.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- This ship was originally built as the Cunard cargo-passenger liner Media of 1947. She was sold to Cogedar Line in 1961 and rebuilt as the Europe-Australia emigrant ship Flavia. In 1968 she was chartered to the Costa Line. who refitted her as a cruise ship. She operated Caribbean cruises from Miami, and was so successful, Costa bought her in 1969.

DESCRIPTION -- Used B/W postcard from the old Cunard Line vessel the Queen Mary which is original and in a very good condition, and has a date stamped as 1936 the vessels maiden voyage year. Used postcards from the Queen Mary's first year at sea are very collectable.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- The first Queen Mary liner was the Cunard's flagship for 10 straight years from 1936 to 1946. RMS Queen Mary and RMS Queen Elizabeth were both built to oppose the competition from the ocean liners built in Germany and France in that time. The QM ship maiden voyage was on 27 May 1936. In the years of WWII, the QM liner was commissioned to the Navy forces (also referred to as the Queen Mary troopship or troop carrier) for Allied soldiers.

DESCRIPTION -- B/W postcard from the Ben Line of the vessel Bengloe which is unused and in a very good condition.

CONDITION -- Very Good
HISTORY -- The Ben Line Group was a family owned company with its origin in the shipping company, A & W Thomson, set up by brothers Alexander and William Thomson in Leith, near Edinburgh, in 1825. Following the departure of Alexander from the partnership, the company was renamed WM Thomson & Co in 1847.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- RMS Sylvania was an ocean liner built in 1957 by John Brown & Co (Clydebank), Glasgow, Scotland for the United Kingdom-based shipping company Cunard Line. She was the last Cunard Line vessel built specifically for transatlantic crossings. The ship was later heavily rebuilt as a cruise ship, and sailed under the names SS Fairwind, SS Sitmar Fairwind, SS Dawn Princess and SS Albatross before being scrapped in 2004. She was renamed SS Genoa for her last voyage.
