VERY EARLY B/W POSTCARD FROM THE MAURETANIA

WHITE STAR LINE

DESCRIPTION -- Unused B/W postcard from the old Cunard White Star Line vessel the RMS Mauretania which is original and in an excellent condition.
[ONLY 1 AVAILABLE]

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Mauretania, transatlantic passenger liner of the Cunard Line, called the “Grand Old Lady of the Atlantic.” It was launched in 1906 and made its maiden voyage in 1907; thereafter, it held the Atlantic Blue Riband for speed until 1929, challenged only by its sister ship, the Lusitania (sunk by a German submarine on May 7, 1915). During World War I the Mauretania worked as a transport and hospital ship. During its long career the ship made 269 double crossings of the Atlantic, exclusive of war work. Its last crossing was made in 1934, and it was broken up in 1935.

DESCRIPTION -- Unused and great condition B/W postcard of the Elder Dempster Line vessel the Abosso which is a very early postcard.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY --
Elder Dempster Shipping Limited was formed in 1899. Among their ships were the liner SS Monterey and the steamer SS Montezuma, which in early 1900 were both chartered as transport ships for British troops destined for South Africa during the Second Boer War.

DESCRIPTION -- Unused mint condition colour postcard from the old Cunard White Star Line vessel the RMS Ascania which is original and is an an early item from this vessel.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The RMS Ascania was an ocean liner operated by the Cunard Line. She was launched on 20 December 1923 at the Armstrong Whitworth Shipbuilders Ltd yard in Newcastle-upon-Tyne; the fifth of Cunard's six "A" class liners. Due to unforeseen cost overruns, the vessel was not completed until May 1925.

DESCRIPTION -- B/W postcard of the cruise line vessel the Nieuw Amsterdam which is in a very good condition and is unused.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The SS Nieuw Amsterdam was a ship built in Belfast by Harland and Wolff. It was launched in 1905 and on April 7, 1906, made its first voyage to New York from Rotterdam. The Nieuw Amsterdam was fitted with sails, but they were never deployed; it was the first quadruple expansion powered ship of the Holland America Line.

The second SS Athenic was built by Harland and Wolff Ltd, Belfast, and followed The Corinthic and was launched on November 26, 1946, completed in July 1947 and departed on her maiden voyage London to Auckland on August 1, 1947.

DESCRIPTION -- Unused very good condition B/W postcard from the vessel the Remuera from the New Zealand Steamship Company which is original and is an an early item from this vessel.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The SS Remuera was one of many ships that shaped the 20th century, expanding trade and taking migrants to new worlds.  The ship was built in 1911 by W Denny and Brothers at Dumbarton on the Clyde and launched by Mrs. Arthur Rhodes, the wife of a New Zealand based director of the company.  The initial passenger accommodation was 60 first class berths, 90 second and 130 third class.

DESCRIPTION -- Unused mint condition colour postcard from the old Cunard White Star Line vessel the Mauretania which is original and is an early item from this famous vessel.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- RMS Mauretania was launched on 28 July 1938 at the Cammell Laird yard in Birkenhead, England, and was completed in May 1939. The second Mauretania was the first ship built for the newly formed Cunard White Star company following the merger in April 1934 of the Cunard and White Star Line. On the withdrawal of the first RMS Mauretania in 1934, to prevent a rival company using the name and to keep it available for the new liner, arrangements were made for the Red Funnel paddle steamer Queen to be renamed Mauretania in the interim.

DESCRIPTION -- Unused mint condition and very rare to find B/W postcard from the old Cunard Line vessel the Queen Mary which is original and is an early issued postcard from this famous old vessel.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The RMS Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line also known as Cunard White Star Line when the vessel entered service. Built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland, Queen Mary, along with RMS Queen Elizabeth, were built as part of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service between Southampton, Cherbourg and New York.

EARLY COLOUR POSTCARD FROM THE CUNARD LINE VESSEL THE RMS QUEEN MARY

DESCRIPTION -- Early colour postcard of the Cunard Line vessel The RMS Queen Mary and is a very rare find and not one we have seen before. 
[ONLY 1 AVAILABLE]

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- RMS Queen Mary sailed on her maiden voyage on 27 May 1936 and won the Blue Riband that August; she lost the title to SS Normandie in 1937 and recaptured it in 1938, holding it until 1952 when it was taken by the new SS United States. With the outbreak of the Second World War, she was converted into a troopship and ferried Allied soldiers during the conflict.  Following the war, Queen Mary was refitted for passenger service and along with Queen Elizabeth commenced the two-ship transatlantic passenger service for which the two ships were initially built.
